Classic Stovetop Hot Chocolate

Real chocolate melted into hot milk, with a pinch of salt and a spoonful of vanilla. A warm hug in a mug.

Ingredients

Method

  1. HeatWarm the milk in a saucepan over medium-low heat until steaming. Do not boil.

  2. MeltWhisk in the cocoa, sugar and salt, then the chopped chocolate until completely melted and smooth.

  3. FinishStir in the vanilla and pour into mugs.

  4. TopTop with marshmallows or whipped cream.

Editor’s tip. A little cocoa powder plus real chocolate gives depth and a rounder body than either one alone.
